Doomed to Repeat with Geko

Geko is a man obsessed with arseholes and biscuits. Oh and he is also a pretty damn talented MC and producer out of the Crate Cartel camp. If you haven’t heard his production LP  ’Crate Cartel Radio’ from last year than you probably have a biscuit crammed in your ears. Or you’re just an arsehole. Listen and learn as the man hits you with 10 LP’s that have influenced him.

The thing all these albums have (cept the last which is more a mix of a mix tape but fuck you, no laws on the Internet) in common is that they are consistent to listen to. Even if its different producers it’s engineered and beats are selected in a way that the album as a whole works and isn’t just a selection of separate tracks. Saves me writing that 9 times.

Redman - “Muddy Waters”

The minimalistic heavy basslines and tuned down samples on this give it a real laid back smoky vibe but Redman murders it and is all attitude.

Doomed to Repeat with Dialect

One of the best new lyricists this country has seen in a long while is Adelaide’s own Dialect, who in only a few years has dropped a couple of my favourite LP’s from these shores which clearly show that this kid understand his roots. Check his Doomed to Repeat selection of LP’s that have influenced him as an artist.

Picking 10 albums that have most influenced me musically was a real hard task but I gave it my best and this is a pretty accurate list. A list where each selection probably has another 5 or more different albums from a circle of affiliates or crew members you could imagine accompany them perfectly. However these albums below have had a more significant impact on my musical development with Hip Hop than any others and are records I think everyone should have in their crates… CD rack?…I-pod? Ok, UTorrent folder. Let’s hope for the first preference!

1. GANG STARR – ‘MOMENT OF TRUTH’

Everyone knows this record and rightfully so. I would have to say no other album has had a greater influence on me than this one. In my opinion this is Premier and Guru at their zenith accompanied by outstanding features, most notably the verses from Inspectah Deck, Scarface & Big Shug. I still listen to this album at least once or twice a week without fail. RIP GURU. My favourite lyricist of all time.

Doomed to Repeat with Aetcix

In our new regular column we get some of our favourite artists to break down 10 LP’s that have influenced them as artists and that they reckon you should have in your collection. Consider it a history lesson you bastards, especially to you kids who are slipping. First up we got former Hungry Human, one-time half of Field Trip and now Crate Cartelian spitter that we all know as Aetcix breaking down some knowledge. Take notes kids.

Choosing 10 must have albums is incredibly difficult.  I’ve left a lot of shit out, and only really included what I have been bumpin’ over this $3 bottle of Merlot. Yeah I’m drunk writing this.

1. Wu Tang - “The W”

Ok, 36 Chambers is the obvious answer here, but if you don’t already own that motherfuckers there’s something wrong with you. To me, The W is the true follow up to 36 Chambers, just listen to the shit,  and appreciate.

2. Capone-N-Noreaga - “The War Report”

This is just that post-95 classic NY shit. I bought this when it came out, and it’s still on heavy rotation. I can chuck this shit on when crew come over for a smoke or a brew and nobody complains. Ever.
