Maundz & Bias B’s “Take It Back” gifs

There isn’t much more we can say about the latest Maundz track “Take It Back” that hasn’t been said already. Whether praising Wik’s beat as an instant classic that could sit comfortably next to Pete Rock’s work in the mid-90’s or saying Maundz just gets better and even betterer with every verse he lays down or that Bias wearing that tracksuit and ponytail is the best thing that has happened in a filmclip since Reason was being drunk in a flannel with Def Wish - everybody has already gabbed on about it relentlessly.

So fuck it! To celebrate one of the best songs and filmclips of this year and so we don;y have to come up with some sort of colourful fucking language to describe how dope this track is, we present to you the best moments of “Take It Back” in gif format! “How Did I End Up Here” by Bias B featuring Bigfoot and Eloquor

This new LP from Bias cements his place at the table of local hip hop legends. Much like he spits in the track “That Feeling” he is ‘now immortal, an important part of history’. I mean, just try to imagine local hip hop without the man. You can’t can you? It’s like Melbourne without trams - shit don’t make sense.

His 5th LP ‘Biaslife’ is his most outstanding effort yet. The man has poured his heart and soul onto his rhyme pad and the production from heads like Doc Felix, Aux One, Discourse, Geko, DJ Bonez and The Statesmen is world class. In many ways Bias’ progression as an MC has mirrored that of the local scene itself as it has found it’s own feet and matured. And this right here is serious grown man rap.

The track “How Did I End Up Here” is a perfect contemplative beat laced with a haunting vocal sample by Lazy Grey which has Bias, Bigfoot and Eloquor all drop tales of mates who have took their own lives. It’s honesty is spine tingling shit to be honest with you, and it is definitely one of the most powerful cuts on the LP.

Pegz - “Deities of Def”

We knew he couldn’t stay away. When Pegz said he was gonna stop dropping solo material and concentrate on Obese, I started counting down the days to his Danny Green return to the ring. Shit was inevitable. This was a man who had laid his beliefs and convictions down on wax for around a decade. It was only a matter of time til he felt the need to pick up the mic again proper.

When Gully Platoon dropped you could already tell he was in the gym hitting the punching bag again. The verbal jabs were still heavy. The man still had shit to say.

And now he’s finally back in the ring solo with ‘Drama’.

A couple of spins in and ‘Drama’ is sounding huge. And it’s got everything. The production is absolutely knocking the headphones (Phazes drums are begging to smash the largest speakers I can find), Reason is on there doing a dangerously on point impersonation of a Triple M radio announcer, there is a reference to Tim Dog being a douchebag and to one of my favourite LP’s of all-time (Rodriguez ‘Cold Fact’ for the record). Oh yeah and Pegz lyrically laying suckas out.

It was hard to choose what first track to leak, but I decided on the “Deities of Def”. A somber M-Phazes track, a little left of centre with Pegz lyrically on point as ‘the champion pugilist’. Just listen (click the cover).

Ivens is Robotnik (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Wow. I’m not even sure this is a comparison. I think Ivens actually IS Robotnik! The similarities are frighteningly on point. They are both shortstack, baldheaded gingas with superior vocabularies who enjoy trapping cute fluffy animals in diabolical machines in order to take over the world (this is what we hear anyway Dave). Go and listen to his LP ‘Sounds To Expire To’ and try to tell me that it isn’t the soundtrack to smashing a fucking cute little hedgehog with a giant spiked death robot. Now hand over my golden rings you motherfucker!
